“Load one more kilo” is a project to advocate travelers to take some things to children on the way of their tours. By the way, you can talk with them and transmit information outside their word to them. Many participants of the project are amateurish photographers so that they took many beautiful pictures. Last Saturday, we organized an exhibition to show these photos and to propagandize this idea on our campus. Some of their pictures were taken when they and the children went out for a picnic. This was the first time for the children to have this kind of experience, so they were all excited. They ate old pumpkins and eggs of widgeons. There was some narrates about the exciting picnic, including eating eggs of widgeons. We were so happy to see that all these pictures aroused students’ great attentions. At the beginning of the exhibition, there were two girls talking about eating eggs of widgeons in a low voice. I didn’t pay attention to them. Several hours later, another girl advised us if we would like to take away the picture which said they sought eggs of widgeons to eat, for the widgeon are protected animals. We followed her advice and took away the picture at once. However I asked myself, what’s more important? In those poor villages, should villagers take advantage of the nature? Some people may refute that if they are promised to eat widgeons’ eggs, it’s also right for local people to kill animals for a better life at discretion, such as tigers, pandas and so on. It seems we can’t accept latter behavior as easily as the former one. We can find it’s really difficult for us to stipulate a standard for this. Some philosophers approve of aims as the scale of the behaviors, that is, it’s right for people to do everything as long as their original intent accords with morality. Obviously we can’t agree with this kind of standard, or many criminals would escape punishment as long as they insist that they had good intent. Some other philosophers stick to the consequences of behaviors as standards. Still there is some weakness in it, for we might lose compassion when we deal with things objectively in despite of people’s intent. What’s your opinion?
